Learn to paint abstracts to motivate your own creativity and develop your artistic skills. To work abstractly allows you too escape from painting pictures or working from examples. Even if you prefer to continue painting reality, abstracting remains the ideal way of reproducing reality according to your own interpretation. Abstract painting paves the way to pure, creative artistic expression and originality without any complicated techniques, regardless of any previous drawing or painting experience.

In each workshop of the Abstract Series I-III you will be shown different approaches on how to start an abstract painting. You will create several paintings per session yourself and all art supplies will be provided!

In Workshop I (Beginners) you will learn about:

–     the basic picture elements of shape, colour, line and space
–     creating under-paintings with gesso, acrylic washes & textures
–     starting an abstract painting with newsprint shapes & finishing it with paint
–     using charcoal, oil or conte crayons and pastels for contours
–     keeping a witness journal for reflection on your painting process
–     abstracting a still life with tissue paper collage and paint
–     creating glazes with bleeding tissue paper & acrylic fluid paints
–     painting wet-on wet with salt & drawing from the right side of the brain with ink
–     varnishing your completed abstract mixed media paintings.
