An Artist’s Eye on the World is a discussion and networking time facilitated by leading Okanagan artists and activists. This event is Part 1 of the 2012 Lille Gard Discussion Series and sponsored by Global Citizen Weektaking place here in Kelowna.

Featured Speakers: Angela Reid-Nagy, Gabe Cipes and Jan Vozenilek.

This event will be the first in a series of three ‘Lille Gard Discussions’ leading up to the 2012 Lille Gard Festival on June 29-July 1. This event will be an informative and exciting way for artists to connect with local causes and for activists to meet local artists. Activists tend to have a deep understanding of the issues and the stakeholders involved. Artists tend to have a strong desire to make a difference in their community – and they have a way to ‘amplify’ a message through their work and their audiences. History shows that bringing these groups together benefits everyone.

Each panellist will choose a specific cause that they are involved in and give a short (aprox. 15 minute) presentation. They will bring a spotlight on a local social and/or environmental issue faced by Okanagan residents. The goal of this event is not only to enlighten people about local issues, but to facilitate connections, even ongoing relationships between Okanagan artists and activists. Panellist presentations will also describe how they’ve experienced the artist/activist collaboration in their work – and how they imagine this collaboration could work in the future.

After the presentations, the panellists (with the help of the moderator) will then facilitate a Q&A discussion time on these issues. There will also be time to mingle after the discussion over delicious snacks, coffees, teas, beers and wines.
