Our Journey: The Healing Power of Art

This dual exhibition features the artwork of local artists, Kim Greenhow (acrylic painting & pottery)& Bethany Handfield (acrylic & encaustic painting, art figurines).


As part of their dual exhibition “Our Journey: The Healing Power of Art”, Kim Greenhow and Bethany Handfield invited 20 members of the community to join them in experiencing a personal journey with the healing power of  art with the “Healing Journeys” painting sessions that were sponsored by the Penticton  & District Community Arts Council. The resulting paintings will also be exhibited during the run of the show. The two exhibitions will be at the Leir House September 6 to October 3, 2013 with an opening reception on September 6th (7-9PM)

September 6th at 7pm: Our Journey: The Healing Power of Art & Healing Journeys opening receptions

September 7th at 3pm: Artist talks with Kim Greenhow & Bethany Handfield

Join Bethany & Kim on a tour of their exhibition as they discuss their artistic process and the community project “Healing Journeys”.


September 8th at 7pm: Creating with Love: The Healing Power of Music with Sunnaira Armstrong, Karen Coogan & Richard Knox (by donation)

Please join Sunnaira, Karen and Richard for an inspiring evening of music and song surronding the healing power of music. Richard will perform songs following the principles of the Golden Rule. Working together, Karen & Sunnaira combine their wisdom, talents, and their drum and singing crystal bowls for a uniquely special experience for all.


September 15th at 2pm: Cindi Tomochko: Art Therapy Talk (by donation)

Cindi Tomochko is a BA; DVATI (Diploma Vancouver Art Therapy Institute) and Certified Dru Yoga Therapy Instructor and offers classes at the Wind in the Willow Studios in Penticton. Cindi will be speaking about her Art Therapy practice.  Art therapy is an expressive and complimentary form of psychotherapy which uses the creative process along with meaningful communication to work with and resolve difficult mental and emotional issues or concerns. The safety of a non-judgmental therapeutic relationship allows for a healing process via self-exploration, discovery and acceptance. Creativity is the means whereby healing takes place.


September 20th at 7:30pm & September 22nd at 2pm: Janette Damsma “I Survived the Deletion” (by donation)

“A true life story of rebellion, heartbreak, and spiritual awakening” told through poetry, song & music..

Janette Damsma, spirit name Paragon, is a self-healing light bearer, artist, certified practitioner of metaphysical sciences, and well established cosmic girl, bringing to light the universal vibrations which are here to assist us on our earthly journey. Janette works with people and animals. She has healed herself from symptoms of epilepsy, depression, sexual and psychological abuse, substance abuse, and chronic fatigue, through meditation, light visualization, spirit guide communications, and other various holistic modalities, and is honored to have the opportunity to share these medicine gifts.
