Geotrope - Ella Morton

Please join us for a reception and artist talk on Saturday, February 15 at 3pm; the reception will be shared with an opening and artist talk by Ella Morton for her exhibition, Geotrope and Duende by local artist Jolene Mackie.

Using a device known as zoetrope – a spinning cylinder that illustrates motion in a series of images – Morton has created a kinetic installation involving images of Canadian and American landscape. The photos are on semi-transparent 4×5” inch film, so that when the zoetrope spins, the images blend together in animation. Through movement and imagery, Geotrope explores how we relate to time and place, and how we confront mystery and the unknown.

Mackie’s large-scale wall drawing in the Window Gallery has an extraordinary presence, depicting tempests of ocean, wind, and seafaring vessel. The artist’s imagery appears on both the wall and the containing glass, giving the illustration even more dimension.

All events will take place at The Alternator Centre for Contemporary Art and are free to the public. The Alternator Centre for Contemporary Art welcomes you to visit our space between January 31 and March 15 to view the exhibitions.
