This one-week summer camp for ages 12-16 is designed for both the experienced young actor as well as the novice. Students will focus on the essential elements of theatre, such as voice, movement, improvisation, scene study and acting techniques in a safe and encouraging environment. Participants will be introduced to techniques of Slam poetry, Greek chorus work and Restoration theatre. Emphasis will be placed on important life skills such as building confidence, inventiveness, imagination and teamwork.

The camp will end with a performance of a modern adaptation of the story of Odysseus. This retelling of the classic tale will feature beautiful but deadly sirens, shipwrecks, monsters, powerful witches, and of course, a hero. Students will be encouraged to share their ideas and direct scenes, as well as learn about set design, and costume and stage management. The focus for the week is to create a collaborative and creative space where young actors feel free to explore all this magnificent art form has to offer.

Fees: $250. Register online at www.osarts.com. Please phone 250.770.7668 or email info@shatfordcentre.com for more information.
