The Kelowna Forum

On December 17, the Bjorn Kriel Quintet will be holding their debut performance at new cultural hub Kelowna Forum on the outskirts of downtown Kelowna.
Bjorn Kriel Quintet is comprised of five young jazz musicians from across Canada, four of which in the last year have been in National Honor Ensembles.
The leader of the group is pianist and composer Bjorn Kriel, who has played in various popular groups in the Okanagan Valley such as Paperboy & the Messengers, Bear Meets World, and most recently the Bjorn Kriel Trio. Joining him are Vancouver’s David Hodgson on saxophones (2016 Winner of Fraser McPherson Scholarship), Kelowna native Toronto-based Madeleine Ertel on trumpet, and local mainstays Alexander Argatoff on bass, and Jason Martin on drums.

The Bjorn Kriel Quintet will be premiering several new compositions that focus on blending long-form improvisation and idiosyncratic structures that draw inspiration from jazz, modern-classical, hip-hop, and electronic music.

Kelowna Forum is Kelowna’s newest cultural hub, serving as a meeting place for likeminded people interested in arts, philosophy and higher learning. The building was renovated it with the goal of creating a space where people come together to embrace the arts in our community.
