Alternator Centre for Contemporary Art

Artist Fern Helfand will discuss with Ashok Mathur and Jenica Frisque her current exhibit at the Alternator Centre for Contemporary Art. Inspired by the idea that the problem of racism in North American society is white attitudes and privilege, Fern’s photography meditates on the place of racial stereotypes in her own personal history and in Canadian society. The exhibit includes responses to Fern’s photography by other artists and the discussion seeks to foster a space for the sharing of various perspectives on, and experiences of, racism and racial stereotyping.
