Contribute

oook is looking for contributors.  If you have a story, idea, event, music, concert, photo, art or an article you would like to submit, please email us at discover@oook.ca with your concept, or the full idea.  Or if you just have something that’s plain awesome and random… send that too.

We are  looking for people who are really passionate about a particular interest that they would like to write about on a regular basis (we are open to what “regular” could mean for each individual). We would like these pieces to reveal an insider look into whatever your article covers – because here at oook.ca we know that “there’s more to discover”.

FEATURE ARTICLES: These pieces of writing appear on the animated slider on the oook.ca homepage. These stories are fuller, anywhere from 400 – 800 words, each accompanied by a photo or two and/or a short video, that profile an upcoming event, an individual cultural producer, a cultural institution, a feature or a review of just about anything, etc. We release these stories a couple times a week, usually Monday and Thursdays. Please email discover@oook.ca to pitch your idea for a feature article. If we like the idea, we will email you back with date for when we’d like to receive your article by.

BLOG POSTS: The blog portion of oook.ca is for shorter, on the fly, stream of consciousness type pieces. In the blog, we are looking for shouts outs, interesting photos and videos and links to blogs and other internet content about arts and culture in the Okanagan. We post to our blog as regularly as we are able. So if you’re getting something together last minute, a blog post would be an excellent option. Again just send it to discover@oook.ca

WHAT TO WRITE: We would like these pieces of writing to be different than event press releases. Think about writing these pieces like you’re talking to a friend or acquaintance. Share why this event or organization or individual is so great and why they should check it out. Share your insider knowledge: “Did you know this event came about because so and so got talking 10 years ago…” for example. Personal voices and stories are absolutely welcome and encouraged. oook.ca wants the Okanagan to get to know it’s culture better. Who actually makes the culture? Why do they do it? What’s the inspiration? And what’s next?

Here are some stellar stories that will give you some examples of what you can contribute and how you could do it:

Tracy Satin is the Associate Director of Collections and Conservation, at the Ursula Surtees Regional Conservation Laboratory, part of the Kelowna Museums. oook.ca had a chance to go behind the scenes and find out about the art & science of conservation.

Hi, I’d like to be able to add our venues events on a regular basis.
Fifteen to twenty shows a month.
What do I have to do?
    Thanks!
    Daniel

    Hi Katie
I think you’re doing a fabulous job of this site. It is truly the best place to go to find out what’s going on in the Valley.
