Gallery to become a 1920s-era speakeasy for upcoming event
The Kelowna Art Gallery (or should I say The Canary Club as it will be known for the night) invites guests to join them on Friday, November 18, 2016, for a fundraising event that will transform the space into a 1920s-era speakeasy.
Speakeasy is presented with the generous support of Meiklejohn Architects Inc., and is the 11th in the Gallery’s GO Party! series, which offers guests the opportunity to explore the Gallery’s current exhibitions while enjoying music, performance, and a lively party atmosphere.
The evening will feature DJ Invizible, characters and performances from Kinshira Performance Group, three bars in the midst of the prohibition-era décor and atmosphere, as well as photo ops, art activities, snacks, prizes, a silent auction, and more.
Each attendee is encouraged to add some 1920s-inspired accents to their outfit – consider a fedora, cloche hat, flapper dress, pinstripes, and don’t forget to put on their finest pair of vintage shoes.
In addition, the Gallery’s exhibitions will be open for guests to explore: Drawing from Life; Germaine Koh: Home Made Home; and The Artist’s Garden Project in the courtyard space entitled Escape Artists.
Proceeds from this fundraising event will benefit the Gallery’s educational programming, including our School Tours program, Family Sundays, and children’s art camps.
Tickets for the event are just $15, and include a complimentary beer or glass of wine. They are available for purchase at the Gallery, by calling 250-762-2226, or online at kelownaartgallery.com. Tickets will not be available at the door and are only available to guests aged 19 or over.
Speakeasy is presented by Meiklejohn Architects Inc. and proudly supported by Mission Hill Family Estate, Tree Brewing Co., Okanagan Spirits, New Horizon Productions, with décor provided by OK Estates Furniture & More.
The Kelowna Art Gallery is located at 1315 Water Street in downtown Kelowna. For more information about current exhibitions, public programming or special events, please visit the Kelowna Art Gallery online at www.kelownaartgallery.com or call 250-762-2226.
