New Vintage Soap Opera Goes Tom Cruise This Saturday

New Vintage Theatre calls it “ the seediest thing this side of Sunset Blvd”-Kelowna’s own soap opera AS THE SUN BURNS. The popular parody set in Kelowna is now in its third season and features New Vintage performers in a 1980’s style soap opera with live episodes performed in a cabaret style at The Black Box Theatre on a monthly basis.

Stars of the hit series which boasts an audience of regular fans include a who’s who of notable local actors including: Bonnie Gratz, Graham Daley, Dana Murphy, Brock Gratz, Reid Gratz, Gloria Helfrick, Kaitlyn Anutooshkin, Victoria Weaver, Adam Weaver, Justin Gaudio, Hillary Omoe, David Gadd and Special Guest-Brent Applegath. This episode also marks the return of series favorite and Kelowna radio personality, Joe Otoo.

Saturday night’s episode is called Risky Business and it includes hot drama, a cool bar and hilarious references to Tom Cruise movies from the 1980’s.

“We are encouraging our audience to come dressed as 80’s Tom Cruise for prizes. Whether is The Outsiders, Cocktail, Legend, Top Gun, or Risky Business, those who dress up will be eligible for big prizes. Members also get in at this annual summer party 2 for 1 “, says Artistic Director Bonnie Gratz.

AS THE SUN BURNS can also be seen as a television series. Original episodes, inspired by the live show, air weekly on SHAW TV and are available online.

Tickets are $15 in advance from www.selectyourtickets.com or $25 (cash only) at the door. The show is at The Black Box Theatre, 7:30pm. Doors open at 6:45pm.
