Our 2015/16 Kids Series begins on Sunday, October 4th 2015 at 11:00am as gentle giant Fred Penner returns to our stage. With kind eyes and an undeniable ability to make you feel good about yourself, this musical master brings 25 years of commitment, consistency and depth to a career that skillfully blends the many genres of performing and communication. Bringing a catalogue of hit songs including The Cat Came Back and Sandwiches, Fred Penner has without a doubt established himself as a fundamental part of the North American family entertainment scene.

What happens when a dragon moves into the neighbourhood? Find out on January 23rd 2016 when Tears of Joy Theatre tells the story of The Reluctant Dragon. As magnificent as any dragon who ever took the stage, our dragon is not the fearsome type. He and the boy who befriends him are more interested in art and poetry. Fearing that they are in grave danger the villagers send for the renowned dragon slayer, Sir George. When Sir George learns that the dragon poses no threat to anyone, he and the dragon stage a mock battle with great showmanship to keep the villagers happy.

On March 13th Axis Theatre Company (The Number 14) presents Hamelin: A New Fable, a musical-adventure live-action play focused on the importance of keeping your word. The play is loosely adapted from the fable of The Pied Piper of Hamelin. The performers triple as musicians, actors and puppeteers in a theatrical tour-de-force that is capturing the hearts and minds of elementary school and family audiences across BC.

The Society’s 2015/16 Kids series concludes on Sunday April 17th with WonderHead’s new play The Middle of Everywhere. Winston, a man of particular particularities, is expecting nothing other than a perfectly normal day.  The appearance of eleven year old Penny at his bus stop is the first thing to upset his routine, but what he doesn’t realize is that today, Penny would be the least of his worries.  The universe has conspired to send these strangers on a fantastical journey through time and space, forcing them to confront their fears head-on as they struggle to find their way home.
