The Vernon and District Performing Arts Centre Society proudly announces the launch of our 2015/16 Theatre Series. This series consists of five diverse, high quality shows from all across North America.

The series begins on Tuesday, October 20th at 7:30pm with Six Guitars. Masterful storyteller and captivating entertainer, Chase Padgett delivers a virtuosic performance as he portrays six different guitar players. Blues, Jazz, Rock, Classical, Folk and Country, each distinctive character shares their humourous and heartfelt songs and stories about how they fell in love with music.

Vancouver’s Firehall Arts Centre takes the stage on Wednesday, November 18th at 8:00pm with Chelsea Hotel, one of the most popular productions in their history. Six musicians pay homage to Leonard Cohen’s powerful and inspirational music in this theatrical performance. A recent tour of Western Canada attracted praise from critics and sold-out audiences at Winnipeg’s Prairie Theatre Exchange and Saskatoon’s Persephone Theatre.

Our Theatre series continues on Saturday, February 6th 2016 at 8:00pm with Porte Parole’s Seeds, a provocative re-enactment of the 4-year legal showdown between Percy Schmeiser and one of the world’s biggest biotech corporations, Monsanto Inc. This docu-drama play by Annabel Soutar sparks conversation and debate about genetically modified food, bio patents and our food future.

On Thursday, February 25th 2016 at 7:00pm, the Society welcomes Vancouver Opera’s touring adaptation of Stickboy. The inner life of a young boy is at the heart of this moving and meaningful new opera created by world renowned spoken-word artist Shane Koyczan and composer Neil Weisensel. Stickboy is bravely autobiographical, beautifully poetic, visually innovative and musically memorable.

Our 2015/16 Theatre series concludes on Wednesday, March 9th 2016 at 7:30pm with Western Canada Theatre and Thousand Island Playhouse’s production of A Closer Walk With Patsy Cline. One of only two plays ever approved by the Patsy Cline Estate, follow the legendary country and western music sensation Patsy Cline as she climbs to stardom from small town Virginia to Carnegie Hall. The perfect mixture of song and acting comes together, with some of the 20+ classic songs featured including “Walkin’ After Midnight,” “Sweet Dreams,” and “Crazy”.
