COOL ARTS SOCIETY PREPARES FOR PUBLIC ART COMMUNITY GARDEN PROJECT

The hot weather will find many people getting into their gardens and community garden plots. Cool Arts is no exception.
On Saturday, July 11th, Cool Arts Society; in partnership with artist Wanda Lock, SOL’Art and Central Okanagan Community Gardens; will begin installation of Gaudi in the Garden: Phase II at the community garden plot at 1311 St. Paul, Kelowna.
The Gaudi in the Garden project concept was hatched in conversations between Cool Arts Executive Director Rena Warren and SOL’ Art director Roxana Adams; who had both traveled to Barcelona, Spain and seen the broken tile mosaics created by 19th century architect Antonin Gaudi. In effort to embark upon a community beautification project, Cool Arts and SOL’Art made a successful bid to the city to tile concrete bases of the community garden using recycled tile and broken porcelain. Gaudi in the Garden: Phase I was completed in September 2014.
Much of the material was donated by community members. Many volunteers came out to assist with installation however Warren states, “For Phase II, we would love to see more members of the immediate community; neighbours and businesses on
St. Paul to come out and be part of this.”
Cool Arts is inviting anyone in the community to bring your broken dish or Granny’s porcelain dish to be immortalized on the community garden wall. Installation takes place Saturday, July 11th, between 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. at 1311 St. Paul.
This project has been funded by a City of Kelowna – Community Public Art Grant.
Cool Arts Society is a local non-profit organization that provides art opportunities for adults with diverse abilities
