Summer 2015 Musical Theatre Camp: Red Riding Hood

Missoula Children’s Theatre (MCT) is returning to Vernon this summer and registrations are now open for the theatrical experience of a lifetime.  North America’s largest touring children’s theatre will arrive at the Vernon and District performing Arts Centre on July 6th 2015 with all the ingredients for their new production of Red Riding Hood… except the cast!

Over the river and through the woods to Grandmother’s house she goes. Not so little anymore, Red Riding Hood and her pals try to stay on the straight and narrow in the latest adventure from the Missoula Children’s Theatre, Red Riding Hood.

The Big Bad Wolf, who is not so bad after all, and a friendly neighborhood Forest Ranger urge our heroes to stay true to the path, for in the shadows lurk diversions and a sinister surprise or two. A pack of woefully nasty young wolves and a handsome Woodsman, too good to be true, are a must for our story. Of course, we can’t have a wolf tale without Three Little Pigs and even a Boy Who Cries… you guessed it.  With help from her family and a loyal young Locksmith (he carries the key), Red finds her Grandma and a whole lot more.  Now if only she could retrieve her picnic basket from those rascally Raccoons.

Life is no picnic when you stray from the trail!

The Missoula Children’s Theatre, North America’s largest touring children’s theatre, has been touring extensively for over 40 years from Montana to Japan. They will visit nearly 1,200 communities this year with dozens of touring actor/director teams.

The production is more than memorizing lines. Missoula Children’s Theatre’s mission statement is “the development of life skills in children through participation in the performing arts”. While children are learning this theatrical production they will also have the opportunity to explore who they are as actors and individuals.

Registrations are open for local children ages 6 to 18 to be part of the 60 member cast. The camp begins July 6th and runs until the 11th from 10:00am to 2:30pm. On Saturday, July 11th they’ll be ready to take Red Riding Hood to the stage.

No preparation or prior experience is required! Participants need only to arrive with a bagged lunch and the desire to join an onstage adventure, learning a unique adaptation to the classic story of Little Red Riding Hood. It’s an experience that develops creativity, social skills, goal achievement and self-esteem.

For those who aren’t interested in being in the spotlight, there are four additional backstage spots available for ages 10 and over that will teach important fundamentals of running a production from behind the scenes.

Registration forms are available at the Ticket Seller Box Office, located at 3800 33rd Street, Vernon. Registration is first-come-first-served and there are a total of 64 spots available. Please call the Ticket Seller Box Office at 250-549-SHOW (7469) for more information.
There will be two public performances of Red Riding Hood on July 11th at 3:30pm and 5:30pm. Tickets for the performances are $12 each and can be purchased through the Ticket Seller Box Office by calling 250-549-SHOW (7469).
