WORKSHOP TO TAKE PLACE MARCH 21, 2015

If you want to break the code on how to market your articles, columns and other content to print and online publications, you’ll benefit from this informative workshop, Writing & Marketing Articles, Columns & Other Content for Publication. It takes place Saturday, March 21, 11am—3pm in the small meeting room of the downtown Kelowna library. Put on by Curious Beyond Words Writing School, the workshop will be co-instructed by Dona Sturmanis and Patti Shales Lefkos. The cost is $55.

A critical component to getting your material published is your desired outcome—to get reader exposure, get paid or both. This will determine your strategy in terms of both content and marketing.

You’ll discover:

+the difference between article writer, columnist and content writer
+the difference between the print market (rapidly disappearing) and the online market
+how and where to market articles, columns and content
+the business of getting paid
You will also learn the writing styles and skills required to write in these genres, if a part-time or full-time career is possible, and if you have the right aptitude to do this.

Dona Sturmanis has been writing articles for over three decades. She has appeared in magazines such as Vancouver Magazine, Western Living, Westworld, Canadian Living, Canadian Art and many other publications.

Patti Shales Lefkos is a journalist based at Silver Star Mountain Resort near Vernon, British Columbia. She specializes in articles about travel, balanced lifestyles, education, outdoor pursuits and cottage life. Her articles have appeared in magazines such as The Globe and Mail, San Francisco Chronicle, Travelife.ca and Canadian Living Magazine.
