The Magic of Screenplay Writing takes place Saturday, March 7 in the small meeting room, second floor, downtown Kelowna library, 1380 Ellis Street, 11 am—3pm for a fee of $55. Curious Beyond Words School of Writing ( is honoured to host instructor Linda Coffey.
Many people think making the transition from prose to a screenplay is difficult. It’s actually not as hard as you might think….if you correctly follow the rules!  
You’ll discover:
+the correct format of a screenplay
+the importance of creating realistic dialogue and how to do it
+methods to write brief scene descriptions
+how to write “show, not tell” scenes (no dialogue required!)
+ways to ensure your screenplay is realistic and credible

Linda Coffey is considered one of the top script editors in Canada, and is one of the few to have worked successfully in every aspect of film and television development and production. She is also a creative consultant on web based programming.
Linda spent eight years as the executive script consultant in charge of all western based drama development for the CBC. Here she was responsible for the development and production of all series and movie projects. She has story edited and consulted on hundreds of hours of television and feature film projects.
She was also an external project analyst with Telefilm for 12 years. She has also written a number of commissioned scripts for documentary films, feature films and television series. Linda has several projects currently in development.
She has also designed and taught a number of workshops and master classes for film and television writers and directors. She has been the screenwriting instructor and project mentor at the Banff Centre of the Arts for Women in the Director Chair Program since 2006, and this last winter with the Whistler Film Festival.
