BOOM

Written, directed and performed by Gemini and Dora award-winner Rick Miller, BOOM is an explosive new solo performance that documents the music, culture and politics that shaped the Baby Boom generation (1945-1969). BOOM takes us through 25 turbulent years, and gives voice to over a 100 influential politicians, activists and musicians. It’s a mind-blowing experience for audiences of all generations.

BOOM chronologically documents a historical period stretching from that first ‘Boom’ of the Atomic Bomb in 1945 all the way to the launch of Apollo 11 bringing the first human beings to the Moon. Those two iconic moments span 25 of the most tumultuous years in modern history. Advances of technology and communications collided with a generation of children who, due to their numbers, wielded incredible influence. Politics and culture merged like never before – and perhaps never again.

Hailed as one of Canada’s most dazzling performers by the Toronto Star, Miller has performed in five languages across five continents to critical acclaim. Miller hosted ABC’s primetime series Just for Laughs for three years, and has been named one of the 100 most creative people alive by Entertainment Weekly. Miller last performed at the Centre in 2008 in his one-man show MacHomer, a hilarious mashup of The Simpsons and MacBeth.

Through cutting-edge multimedia created in Robert LePage’s Ex machina, unforgettable characters and tour-de-force storytelling, you will experience the global events as they unfold:  the Cold War, McCarthyism, Beatlemania, Trudeaumania, JFK, MLK, Mao and Vietnam, all spiralling into the “The Summer of Love”. In the end, BOOM ends as it began: with a new generation born into a new world order.

Tickets for BOOM are $40 for adults, $37 for seniors, and $35 for students. Call the Ticket Seller Box Office at 250-549-SHOW (7469) or log on line to www.ticketseller.ca for tickets and more information.
