Art on the Line Preview!
The Alternator Centre for Contemporary Art is pleased to present Intermission: A Preview of Art on the Line 2015.
Now in its 13th year, Art on the Line is an annual fundraiser to support fourth-year UBCO BFA student activities. This unique event invites participants to attend a night of entertainment and art viewing with a twist – each ticket to the event guarantees the holder a piece of original artwork to be determined by an complex and exciting selection process – ticket holders’ numbers are drawn from a barrel to determine who gets first selection from the artworks on show. The sneak preview held at the Alternator from January 9 –16 gives the public a chance to see some of the works to be included in Art on the Line 2015. Tickets to the featured event will also be available to purchase from gallery staff.
Art on the Line organizer Connor Charlesworth explains: “This is such a great partnership we have developed with the Alternator Centre for Contemporary Art. This is the 13th annual Art on the Line, however it is the first time we have offered a preview to show the public the calibre of work that will be available. We hope it piques the interest of the general public to come out to the feature event on February 7th at UBC Okanagan and experience first-hand the excitement and adrenaline of the Art on the Line auction. Ticket holders frequently arrive at the event with a wish-list, but it really comes down to a lottery depending on when their number is selected, and if their favorite piece is still available. Calling this event an art sale is really an understatement – participants really invest themselves in obtaining the piece they want!”
Artists featured in the preview exhibition range from established local artists to hot up-and-comers. Top artists like Rod Charlesworth, Mary Smith McCulloch, Wanda Lock, Gary Pearson and Briar Craig are complimented by works by emerging artists Laura Widmer, Catherine Bennington and Melissa Demale.
