The Very Hungry Caterpillar and Other Eric Carle Favourites

The Vernon and District Performing Arts Centre proudly presents The Very Hungry Caterpillar and Other Eric Carle Other Favourites on Saturday, November 22nd at 11:00am at the Vernon and District Performing Arts Centre. The Very Hungry Caterpillar and Other Eric Carle Favourites is the second of four shows in the Society’s 2014/15 Kids’ series.

“Dear Mermaid [Theatre Company] Friends – Your performance is stunningly beautiful! You’ve captured and enhanced what I am trying to do. I was mesmerized by the tempo, colors, voice, movements, music. . . Best wishes and thank you!”

– Eric Carle, author

Closely following the books that the stories were adapted from, these Eric Carle Favourites provide a new generation with a seamless entry into the world of theatre in a performance that can be enjoyed by kids and parents alike.

Mermaid Theatre brings stunning puppets and props to share their love of Eric Carle’s classic stories.    Now in its 36th season, Mermaid ranks among North America’s most respected creators of family entertainment. Unique adaptations of children’s literature have delighted close to four million young people on four continents.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar follows the wonderful adventures of a very tiny and very hungry caterpillar as he eats his way through an amazing variety of foods on his path to becoming a beautiful butterfly.

High up in the sky, Little Cloud playfully transforms himself into various creatures, including a sheep, and an airplane, a shark and more. The Mixed-Up Chameleon is bored with his life, sitting about predictably changing colour all day. Following an adventurous trip to the zoo, he attempts to emulate the beautiful animals he sees before coming to the conclusion that there is value in his own unique self.

Directed and designed by Jim Morrow, who ranks among Canada’s most esteemed puppet masters, this triple-bill show incorporates evocative original music by Nova Scotian composer Steven Naylor and innovative black light staging techniques which highlight Morrow’s stunning puppets and props.

Tickets for The Very Hungry Caterpillar and Other Favourites are $18 for all seats or $64 for a family pack for four, and are available through the Ticket Seller Box Office at 250-549-SHOW (7469) or online at www.ticketseller.ca.
