Vernon Theatre Series Subscriptions On Sale Now!

The Vernon and District Performing Arts Centre Society proudly announces the launch of our 2014/15 Theatre Series. This series consists of five diverse, high quality shows.

The Society’s 2014/15 Theatre series begins on Monday, October 20th at 7:30pm with Western Canada Theatre’s production of Driving Miss Daisy. Warm-hearted and humourous, this Pulitzer Prize-winning play follows the adventures of a stubborn Southern matriarch and her proud chauffeur as their unlikely 25-year friendship transforms them both.

Vancouver’s Arts Club Theatre Company takes the stage on Thursday, November 6th at 7:30pm with their irreverently witty and outright uproarious production of Avenue Q. Described as “Sesame Street for adults”, Avenue Q is part felt, part flesh, and packed with songs that are surprisingly poignant and only occasionally PC. Warning: full puppet nudity and other vulgarities. Will induce laughter.

Our Theatre series continues on Sunday, January 25th 2015 at 7:30pm with Debussy vs. Ravel: the Judgement of Paris. The musical revolutionary Claude Debussy and his former protégé Maurice Ravel compete for the love of the city of Paris. Created by CBC Radio’s Tom Allen, The Judgement of Paris is a mix of cabaret, history, music, and storytelling. Heroic and tragic, history and fiction, may the best composer win!

On Saturday, March 7 2015 at 7:30pm, the Society welcomes Boom, an explosive new solo performance by Rick Miller (MacHomer) which takes us through 25 turbulent years and gives voice to over 100 influential politicians, activists and musicians that shaped the baby boom generation. Through cutting-edge multimedia, unforgettable characters and tour-de-force storytelling, Boom provides a mind-blowing experience for audiences of all generations.

The 2014/15 Theatre series concludes on Wednesday, April 23rd 2015 at 7:30pm with Grim and Fischer, an award-winning full-face mask comedy from the physical theatre company WONDERHEADS. Mrs. Fischer, an aging grandmother, is paid a visit by none other than the Grim Reaper himself. In this living cartoon, Fischer’s struggle for survival takes flight as she attempts to literally cheat death in this tender and fanatical performance.
