Morning Melodies – Classical Music on Select Tuesday Mornings
The Vernon and District Performing Arts Centre Society is proud to announce our 2014/15 Morning Melodies Series – intimate classical music concerts taking place on select Tuesday mornings.
Each event begins at 10:00am with coffee, tea, treats and a chance to chat with the musicians, followed by a 70-minute concert at 10:30am. All four concerts are hosted by Vancouver pianist Sarah Hagen, who has invited fellow musicians to bring their world-class artistry to Vernon. The musicians, all known for their perceptive, eloquent and entertaining commentary, will take time to offer personal insights into the music. What better way to spend your Tuesday mornings?
The series begins on October 7th with a mesmerizing performance by Cellist Rebecca Wenham. Described as a musical force of nature, Wenham has performed internationally and has won numerous awards for her musical prowess. Her repertoire ranges from classical to jazz to Persian.
The second performance takes place on November 4th, and is headlined by violinist and Vancouver Symphony Associate Concertmaster Joan Blackman. Praised for her lyricism, precision and ravishing tone, Blackman delivers a vibrant and lively morning of music.
The Society’s Morning Melodies series continues on February 24th 2015 with a performance from Julliard graduate Marcus Takizawa on the viola. Takizawa has been a finalist in numerous musical competitions and performs with orchestras across North America.
The 2014/15 Morning Melodies series concludes on April 21st with a performance showcasing the musical talent of Vancouver pianist Sarah Hagen. Having performed as an accompanist for the previous three performances, Hagen’s outstandingly imaginative and refreshingly charming approach offers an intense and profound musical experience in this solo performance.
