Quick Talks at the Kelowna Art Gallery – The Artist’s Garden Project: Lynden Beesley: Hortus Conclusus
The Kelowna Art Gallery presents Quick Talks on Thursday, August 14, from 7 to 9 pm, in conjunction with our current exhibition, The Artist’s Garden Project: Lynden Beesley: Hortus Conclusus.
Local artist Lynden Beesley and five other speakers present a series of ten-minute talks on the theme Women and Gardens: dyeing, strewing, brewing, healing, and contemplation. The presentations will relate to Beesley’s exhibition, Hortus Conclusus (Latin for enclosed garden), which pays tribute to the medieval herb/physic garden, and uses raised beds arranged symmetrically around a central fountain.
Quick Talks will be moderated by Nancy Holmes, Associate Professor of Creative Writing, and Poetry in the Faculty of Creative and Critical Studies at UBC Okanagan. Joining Holmes will be artist Lynden Beesley; Shona Ellis, Professor in the Department of Botany, UBC, Vancouver; Kristi and Ruth Jarrett, members of the Ponderosa Spinners, Weavers & Fibre Artists Guild, based in Kelowna; Lillian Sokil, Master Gardener at Okanagan Lavender & Herb Farm; and Stephanie Schoales, former chef at Manteo Resort who worked there along with well known local chef Bernard Casavant.
Talks will be back-to-back, after which our moderator will field questions from the panel and audience. Quick Talks are free and open to the public.
The Artist’s Garden Project: Lynden Beesley: Hortus Conclusus will be on view in the Gallery’s outdoor courtyard space until Spring 2015.
