Five Hole For Food

Hello everyone,

It’s not often I contact you out of the blue, so I hope that I can have your attention for just a couple minutes. Also, please forgive the mass emailing, but I wanted to let you all know about an event that I’ve been organizing. (And also, please forgive me if you’ve already received this email. Some of you are in both of my email accounts.)

If you’re not aware, I’m part of an organization called Five Hole For Food, which organizes games of street hockey in cities across the country to raise funds and food for that city’s local food bank. It’s a great organization that has helped raise over 500,000 lbs of food for food banks across the country in just 5 years.

This is the second year that I’ll be organizing an event to happen here in Kelowna, on June 7th (next Saturday) from 1–5pm. We’ll be setting up a couple rinks at Stuart Park Plaza downtown.

It’s entirely open to public: no registration needed, all ages and all skill levels are welcome. Just come down, bring a hockey stick if you have one (if not, there will be some there) and a donation for the food bank and have some fun playing hockey. You can play for 10 minutes or the full 4 hours, and you can come down at any time between 1–5pm to play. It’s a blast as I’ve been to many of the Five Hole For Food events over the years.

At this point, I’m just asking for two things: participation and/or promotion. Please send this around to your friends, family, or anyone you think might be interested in playing some street hockey and supporting a great cause like the local food bank.

If you plan on coming, you can RSVP on the Facebook event page (www.facebook.com/events/865177176830962). You can get more information on the Five Hole for Food website (www.fiveholeforfood.com/kelowna). Also, I’ve attached a pdf of the poster (designed by me, by the way) that you can also send around to whomever may be interested.

Finally, if you want to donate, there are donation boxes at the Accelerate Okanagan and CoLab offices in downtown Kelowna (1405 St. Paul Street). Also, the Save-On-Foods on Lakeshore is collecting in-store donations all this week before the event. Or, come down on June 7th and make a donation during the event. And if you feel so inclined, grab a hockey stick, bring some friends along and have some fun!

Thanks, and again, sorry for the mass email but I definitely appreciate your time and attention.
