Exhibition: Great Art on Screen – Munch 150

The Vernon and District Performing Arts Centre Society and the Vernon Public Art Gallery proudly present Munch 150 on Saturday, July 5th 2014 at 1:00pm at the Vernon and District Performing Arts Centre. Munch 150 is the second of three film screenings showcasing the works of great artists.

This film showcases the exhibition of the same name that was co-hosted in 2013 by the Oslo’s National Museum and the Munch Museum to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Munch’s birth. Munch 150 also reveals exclusive behind-the-scenes moments of the exhibition’s preparation, which normally go unseen by the public.
The exhibition was hailed as a “once in a lifetime show”. Global interest was further drawn to the exhibition as one of Munch’s four The Scream paintings recently set a public art auction record, selling for $120 million. Many know Munch as the man who painted The Scream, but his complete works are remarkable in their own right. With 220 paintings on display, the exhibition brought together the greatest number of Munch’s key works in one place, celebrating the works of one of the greatest artists to have ever lived.
Scenes from the exhibition are interwoven with an in-depth biography of Munch’s life from the mid-19th century to the German occupation of Norway in the Second World War. Host Tim Marlow and special guests delve into the works of one of the towering figures of modern art.
Tickets for Munch 150 are $18 for adults, $13 for students, and are available through the Ticket Seller Box Office at 250-549-SHOW (7469).
