The Vernon and District Performing Arts Centre Society proudly presents Onstage Concerts: Del Barber & Oh My Darling on Monday, February 17th at 7:30pm at the Vernon and District Performing Arts Centre.
The February 17th concert is the second of two On Stage Concerts scheduled this winter at the Vernon and District Performing Arts Centre. With the audience seated cabaret style on the stage, Del Barber and Oh My Darling perform an intimate concert in this unique venue.
With a sweet name and even sweeter sound, Oh My Darling conjures up the right mix of emotion and elation with their unique brand of country for the first half of the concert. Their prairie roots mixed with bluegrass, Appalachian old time, southern twang, and Franco-folk, makes their style a melting pot of musical languages. Each time Oh My Darling takes the stage, they prove time and again why they’re captivating audiences and attracting an abundance of fans.
All four of their Albums were honoured with nominations for Best Roots Album in the Western Canadian Music Awards. Oh My Darling has toured throughout Europe and North America and has headlined Canadian tours. Their music has received regular play on CBC Radio, they were featured on CBC Radio 2’s Canada Live concert series and they’ve topped the national campus roots charts.
Oh My Darling consists of Allison de Groot on Banjo/Vocals, Rosalyn Dennett on Fiddle/Vocals, Vanessa Kuzina on Vocals/Guitar and Marie-Josée Dandeneau on Upright Bass/Vocals. Individually, they are known as some of the hottest players on the Canadian roots scene.
After the intermission, all eyes and ears are on the incredible talents of Del Barber. He has emerged as one of the next wave in this country’s proud tradition of songwriting talent. Having grown up in the Canadian prairies, the landscape is as much a part of him as the people he has met along the way. Barber’s fourth album Prairieography, set to be released February 4th 2014, is born out of a love for his home, its people and their stories.
Barber’s 2011 album Love Songs for the Last Twenty was Juno nominated for Roots & Traditional Album of the Year for, and won two Western Canadian Music awards for Best Independent Album of the Year and Best Roots Solo Recording of the Year.
