Okanagan Philippines Typhoon Fundraiser
In aid of massive relief efforts needed in the Philippines as a result of devastation caused by one of the world’s largest recorded storms, Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda), Revolution Events is organizing a fundraising event at the Rotary Centre for the Arts, in Kelowna, BC, on Saturday, November 23rd, 2013 from 2pm to 9pm.
The event will include approximately 20 live bands, solo artists, and other performers, and a silent auction.
With net proceeds to the Canadian Red Cross “Typhoon Haiyan”, the goal is to raise $100,000 locally, which the Government of Canada will match, doubling our efforts.
“The Revolution Events team started the project before the storm actually landed in the Philippines on November 7th. The community has been extremely supportive. People and businesses have been forthcoming with generous offers,” says James Blonde, one of company’s founders, working with Trance Blackman and Chelsey Dalzell.
A press conference will be held at the Rotary Centre for the Arts at 12 noon on Tuesday, November 19th. All media representatives are welcome.
Current event supporters include the Canadian Red Cross, all TD Bank locations throughout the Okanagan, Opera Kelowna, Wentworth Music, Oranj Fitness, with more signing up daily.
Blonde continues, “We’d like to take this opportunity to encourage the people of the Okanagan to support this cause. We’re so grateful for the offers of volunteers and artists donating their time for this event. We saw something similar in Haiti several years ago, and we’re fortunate this type of disaster doesn’t happen here. We trust locals will dig deep into their pockets both at home and at work. We’ve set the target at $100,000 and it would be just fantastic to reach or surpass that goal. It can be done. There are nearly 300,000 people living the Okanagan. Surely this is an obtainable goal.”
