Singalong Fridays and Songwriters Stewdio
I went to check out the Public House Band at the Turtle Bay Pub in Winfield on Friday as part of their first show of a 5 week run (every Friday in October). I gotta say they were great last year but they have really cranked it up. I’d highly advise checking them out any Friday in October.
Lastly I wanted to share with you a new neat collective concept that is being held at Music City Studio twice a month. Its called Songwriters Stewdio and here is their description of the event:
The flavour of a stew changes depending on the ingredients included. The same can be said for a musical jam session. When you place a bunch of musicians in an informal gathering to play unrehearsed and improvise ……. MAGIC HAPPENS! Add the unknown factor of an original song and a constantly changing mix of instruments and voices and … well, we’ll see.
THE RECIPE
Time: 45 minutes (x2)
Ingredients:
1 Songwriter
2 Songs presented
1 Song chosen
Multiple musicians and vocalists
A variety of instruments
Limited time to simmer in the song
And on cue…….. RECORD what we have created
Stir and repeat
These sessions will focus on original music, providing an outlet for local and traveling songwriters to present their work in a supportive and creative environment. A portion of the audience will include other songwriters, singers and musicians who will then have an opportunity to jam with the songwriter adding different flavors to their songs.
I caught up with Sandy McAfee, who hosts each collaboration and got some of her thoughts on the event:
Also here is a video from one of the recent sessions where they worked on one of Sandy’s songs:
