Sci-fi and cartoon-themed ALIENS and ‘80s GO Party! touches down at the Kelowna Art Gallery
Who says you can’t help support art education and have a great time doing it? Not us at the Kelowna Art Gallery. We invite you to kick-start your Halloween festivities and join us on Friday, October 25, 2013, from 7 to 11 pm, when the Kelowna Art Gallery hosts ALIENS and ‘80s, with presenting sponsor Disney Interactive.
ALIENS and ‘80s is the 8th in our GO Party! series. This time our theme is inspired by our two exhibitions, Keith Langergraber: Theatre of the Exploding Sun and Saturday Morning Cartoons.
Keith Langergraber: Theatre of the Exploding Sun comprises the artist’s three-part film, Time Traveller Trilogy, and includes fascinating sculptural elements and four suites of drawings/works on paper. The work is situated in Sci-Fi culture and the film apes the form of sci-fi fan films.
Saturday Morning Cartoons, created in partnership with Art Brew, showcases work by thirty-two local artists exploring the subculture and phenomena surrounding their favorite Saturday-morning cartoons and cartoon characters. The pieces range from classical drawing animation to digital media and sculpture.
Guests are invited to dress up as their favourite science fiction or Saturday morning cartoon character. The evening will feature three bars, a costume contest, sci-fi-themed buffet and sugary cereal bar, door prizes, and a silent auction. DJ Q will be on hand to spin all your ‘80s favourites and get people on the dance floor. Sponsor SW Audio + Visual will be lighting the space to create an exciting, other-worldly atmosphere.
Proceeds from this fundraising event will benefit the Gallery’s educational programming, including our school tours program, Family Sundays, and Art Adventures camps.
Tickets for GO Party! 8: ALIENS and ‘80s are just $20 for members/students, and $30 for non-members, and include your first drink, sci-fi snack buffet, plus a ticket for the door-prize draw. They are available for purchase at the Gallery, by calling 250-762-2226, or online atkelownaartgallery.com. Tickets will not be available at the door and are only available to guests aged 19 or over.
