Kelowna Art Gallery seeks volunteer tour guides for school tour program
The Kelowna Art Gallery is currently looking for volunteer docents (tour guides) for ourschool tour program. Interested applicants should enjoy a creative atmosphere, stimulating surroundings, and working with children. Volunteer docents lead students on exhibition tours and host discussions about exhibitions on view at the Gallery. All docents receive full instruction on the art in each exhibition and advance training about working with students in a gallery setting.
“Becoming a volunteer docent at the Gallery was the most rewarding new experience I have had in a long time,” says volunteer Karen Rodger. “Each tour and discussion with a class felt completely different from the previous one. The children continually surprised me by making the most remarkable observations and art work. I can’t wait to return in fall 2013.”
The school tour program welcomes 8000 students throughout the Central Okanagan annually, and has received national recognition for excellence in educational programs from the Canadian Art Gallery Educators. For many students, this visit is their first experience in an art gallery.
Volunteers play a vital role in the Kelowna Art Gallery’s operations by helping to enrich the art experience for the general public and build a connection between exhibitions and visitors. The Kelowna Art Gallery depends upon volunteers in order to achieve success in the programs and events produced each year.
Volunteers are asked to fill out and submit a volunteer application form to Renee Burgess, Head of Public Programming, no later than Sunday, September 15. Application forms are available online or at the Gallery from reception. For more information please call the Gallery at 250-762-2226.
