The Vernon Public Art Gallery is gearing up for its 5^th annual alternative arts event: Riot on the Roof.  On Saturday August 24^th, Riot will be transforming the Vernon Parkade into a vibrant sphere of creativity by showcasing the artistic talents of emerging artists from the Okanagan and surrounding areas.  Riot on the Roof’s focus is to promote youth involvement in the Okanagan’s artistic community and provide an opportunity to view and participate in alternative forms of art and entertainment.  Such art forms include music, dance, fashion, film, performance, live art, and more. This highly anticipated event is enjoyed by hundreds each year and promises to provide a fun and riotous evening for all. New for 2013! Chalk Riot Competition – featuring a $150 cash prize! Riot runs from 7pm-11pm. Tickets are $5/members, $10/non-members, available in advance at the Gallery or at the door.

Artists include: Main Stage Bands: Paperboy, The Dragstrip Devils, Bear Meets World, Luke Agawin, Xul, Naked Ghosts, Amistad. Acoustic singer/songwriters/musicians: Raquel Warchol, Peter McKillop, Eli Garlick, Fern. Dance Performance:Mousai Entertainment. Spoken Word/Poets: Nathan Hare, Riley Strother, Morgan Armstrong, Molly Woodford. Hair Show by Peter Downey and Chatters Salon (including Fashion and Make Up). Film by Skookum Sound. Visual Artists: Catherine DeMontreuil, Emily Geen, Kait Serafin, Jessie Suurallik, Emily Rice, Charla Maarschalk. Performance Artist:Shimshon Obadia.
