The Vernon and District Performing Arts Centre Society proudly announces the launch of our 2013/14 Theatre Series. This series consists of a diverse selection of five shows, offering high quality theatre at a great price.

The Society’s 2013/14 Theatre series begins on Saturday, September 21st at 8:00pm with Hello Baby!, an instructional lecture by first-time, semi-competent father Lucas Myers. Intended for anyone who is going to be a Dad, is a Dad, has a Dad or knows a Dad, Hello Baby! explores what happens when a self-involved man-child becomes a new father.

Vancouver’s Arts Club Theatre Company (BuddyA Closer Walk with Patsy ClineMom’s the Word Remixed and more) takes the stage on Thursday, November 7th at 7:30pm with their hilarious production of Boeing Boeing – A funny, frisky mile-high comedy about a bachelor who juggles the hearts of three air hostesses:  Gloria, Gabriella, and Gretchen—aka “America,” “Italy,” and “Germany”, all kept apart by the precision of the airline timetable.  But when Boeing introduces a faster jet, turbulence looms and things go hysterically off-course.

Our Theatre series continues on Friday, January 24th 2014 at 8:00pm with the newest production from the Old Trout Puppet Workshop (The Erotic Anguish of Don Juan and Famous Puppet Death Scenes): Ignorance – a puppet documentary evolving from blissful prehistoric humanity to the present day pursuit of happiness. It’s about why we’re not happy, and how can we solve this problem without alcohol, tranquilizers, frontal lobotomies, and other forms of induced ignorance. Warning: puppet suicide and puppet nudity.

On Tuesday, February 11th 2014 at 7:30pm, the Society welcomes a full scale production of Godspell from New York based Moonglow Entertainment in association with Toronto’s Draydon Entertainment. Prepare ye for this timeless tale of friendship, loyalty and love written by the Grammy and Academy Award-winning composer of Wicked, Stephen Schwartz. Join in the celebration as a spectacular ensemble of bright young stars stirs your soul, raises your spirit and lifts you right out of your seat.

The 2013/14 Theatre series concludes on Friday, March 7th 2014 with Catalyst Theatre’s award winning production of Nevermore, a whimsical and visually stunning musical fairytale for adults. Delightfully dark and playfully perverse, Nevermore explores the imaginary life and mysterious death of Edgar Allen Poe through haunting song, poetic storytelling and surreal imagery. Showtime is 8:00pm. Not recommended for children under 12.
