Joe Ink’s Move It! Comes to Vernon

35 participants are set to start dance making in the Vernon and District Performing Arts Centre’s Marie Flaming Hall as part of the Joe Ink Move It! Workshop that runs January 21 through 25. While the workshop is already full, the event culminates in a public by-donation performance on Friday, January 25 2013 at 7:00pm.

Move It! invites participants back into their bodies, to everyone’s first language: movement. Whether it’s the sandbox or the cubicle, everyone needs to break out of the box once in a while. In cultures around the world, for all ages, dance is a major form of expression.

From toddlers to grandmothers and everyone in between, community members of all ages and abilities come together to be inspired, empowered and motivated to move their bodies through dance making. This free workshop puts an emphasis on physical literacy, creative expansion, mental health, confidence and overall wellbeing. Participants have the opportunity to experience the exhilaration of movement in a safe, non-judgmental environment.

This week-long workshop helps participants in rediscovering the profound pleasure of movement, renewing energy and confidence, alleviating stress, tuning into your body, affirming creativity, building physical literacy, experiencing the joy of dance making, developing a sense of connection with fellow participants and most importantly, having fun!

“Move It! is about affirming one’s creativity and finding one’s own movement style. It’s also a challenge, and it’s about commitment and discipline as well.” – Joe Laughlin, founding artistic director.

The Vernon and District Performing Arts Centre Society would like to thank the following sponsors for their generous support: Sandman Inn, Tim Hortons, the Vernon Morning Star, the British Columbia Arts Council and the Department of Canadian Heritage.
