LES BALLETS JAZZ DE MONTRÉAL
For the second show in our 2012/2013 Dance Series, the Vernon and District Performng Arts Centre Society is proud to present a company that has the magic combination of history and vision. On Tuesday November 20 starting at 8:00 pm, Les Ballets Jazz de Montréal will enchant the audience at the Vernon and District Performing Arts Centre.
Among Canada’s most beloved and longest running dance companies, Les Ballets Jazz de Montréal stands apart from other companies with their quality of performances and ability to captivate audiences and critics around the world. For their 40th anniversary, BJM brings a visually stunning contemporary performance that features pieces from three prolific choreographers and a full company of 12 dancers.
The first piece that seduces the audience into a night of visual bliss is the magnificent duo ZERO IN ON by Cayeatno Soto that is danced to the music of a visionary musician Philip Glass. It is then followed by a piece created by well-known Canadian choreographer Wen Wei Wang called NIGHT BOX which uses movement and light to tell a dynamic story inspired by the urban night life of Montréal. Sending everyone off into the night with a final flourish; HARRY is a new piece specially commissioned for BJM by a rising star in the world of choreography, Barak Marshall.
A night of incredible dance that plays with your heart and imagination!
The love affair with this company does not end when the show ends with additional activities being planned for interested participants:
For all of the technicians at heart, the company’s tour technical director will be hosting an exclusive 30-60 minute BJM Technical Discussion. Participants will have the opportunity to discuss the integral and sophisticated technical inspirations and processes, with a focus on lighting, with one of the industry’s finest lighting directors.
There is one more component this fine company is offering to the advanced dancers in our area: The BJM Master Class gives seasoned dancers (students and teachers) an opportunity to take their dance to another level by working intimately with company members. Class sizes will be limited to allow ample time for one on one opportunities and satisfying discussion.
The Vernon and District Performing Arts Centre would like to thank the following sponsors for their generous support: Kal Tire, Valley Medical Labs, Allan Francis Pringle, Best Western Vernon Lodge, the Vernon Morning Star, North of 50 Magazine, the Okanagan Advertiser, Heritage Canada, Regional District of the North Okanagan, the British Columbia Arts Council, and the Vernon Jazz Society.
