Titanic – The Musical Comes to Vernon Stage

The Vernon and District Performing Arts Centre proudly presents Titanic – the Musical on Saturday, October 27th at 8:00pm at the Vernon and District Performing Arts Centre. Titanic – the Musical is the second of four shows in the Society’s 2012/2013 Theatre Series.

Winner of five Tony Awards including Best Musical, Titanic – the Musical recounts the dreams, hopes and aspirations of those aboard the famous RMS Titanic. On the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the legendary ship, New York’s Windwood Theatricals and Boebe Productions sets sail on a national tour with a story of the launching, maiden voyage, and the collision with the iceberg played out against the background of rigid class distinctions from the Edwardian Age.

Created in 1997, Titanic – the Musical has received universal praise and is lauded for its powerful musical score. The action takes place on the ocean floor as ghosts of passengers and crew reenact their last few days aboard the pride of the White Star fleet. This contemporary musical presents the story of one of America’s greatest tragedies in a powerfully moving production.

“The story is timely, the music spectacular, and the cast is brilliant.” – says Dale Given, who plays Captain E. J. Smith of the RMS Titanic. “You will be captivated by the storyline and fall in love with the travelers, even though you know their fate.”

Windwood Theatricals has been touring Titanic – the Musical throughout the United States and comes to Vernon on the Canadian leg of the tour. Their credits include national tours ofThe Music Man, CabaretBye Bye BirdieLittle Women, and Urban Cowboy the Musical.

Titanic – the Musical is no small production to move around. Hands-down the biggest production of the Society’s 2012/13 season, the show involves more than 28 actors plus four musicians. Adding to the numbers will be a staggering amount of company crew, drivers, and a small army of local crew and volunteers to meet the show’s grand requirements.

Titanic didn’t win 5 Tony Awards by accident.” Adds Given, “Our audiences here were blown away.”
