Runaway Moon Runs Arts Camp – MAKE, CREATE, PLAY, PERFORM

Kids can be cool and creative this summer when Runaway Moon Theatre brings In the Shade, an arts day camp, to Enderby July 3 to 7.
“In the Shade is suitable for anyone who likes making things, creating stories, playing music, or performing,” said Runaway Moon artistic director Cathy Stubington. “Come and help us creatively explore the world we are a part of through story, drama, music, dance and making things.”
During the week camp participants will make simple masks and costumes, learn the movement and songs of birds, listen to and tell stories, make banners, and together create a performance based on the true and imagined lives of our feathered friends.
Camp leaders include dancer Kristi Christian, who has been dancing most of her life, and has been teaching for the past 13 years, most recently at the Armstrong Dance Academy; plant lover Teresa Christian, whose First Nations name is Nawstila, and has worked at Secwepmec Museum in health and in many other settings; writer and actress Julie Ross, who has performed extensively in both Australia and Canada; and puppet maker Stubington.
All four have been part of many of Runaway Moon’s large-scale community performances.
The camp will take place in the community room at the new M.V. Beattie school, and is planned primarily for ages eight to 15. Hours are 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and a snack will be provided. Cost of the camp is on sliding scale, and family rates and subsidies are available.
“Runaway Moon wants to make sure everyone who wants to can come,” said Stubington.
