Ever wonder about what artists are working on at University of British Columbia Okanagan campus? Do not have the time to check out the Fina Gallery regularly? Well, here is you chance to take in and take home art made by students of fine arts, faculty, and local artists all in one place on one night. Every year visual arts students at the University of British Columbia Okanagan campus put on Art On The Line. This event draws in people from around the Okanagan for a night of contemporary art viewing and some friendly competition.

How it works.

If you are the bearer of one of the 100 official $175 tickets, you will have a ticket number. You show up to the Fipke building at UBCO on January 28th and get to peruse the large selection of juried art works including photography, painting, printmaking, sculpture, and everything in between. It is up to you to evaluate the art works and come up with a ranking of your personal favourite works.

Next, everyone gathers in the lecture theatre where numbers are drawn. Whoever it is whose ticket number is drawn first, has the chance to chose their favourite piece of art from the whole exhibition. The next ticket number drawn gets to chose from all the pieces minus the one chosen by the first drawn, and so on. Even if you are the last ticket number drawn, you will still have a variety of works to chose from as the exhibition includes more works then tickets sold.
As you can probably imagine, people get really competitive so the event is really exciting, suspenseful, and entertaining.

Proceeds from the tickets go towards the graduating exhibition that will take place in April, volunteer scholarships, Visual Arts Course Union sponsored events, and %10 of the proceeds will be donated to charitable organizations.

They will be on sale, in the FINA Building foyer at UBCO on Monday January 9th, 2pm to 7pm, Tuesday January 10th, 10am to 5pm, Thursday January 12th, 10am to 5pm, and Friday January 13th, 1:30pm to 5:30pm. If tickets sell out it will be posted on www.vacu.ca.
Payments of $175 must be made via cash or cheque made out to UBCSUO.
