Salsa, the Okanagan’s latin ensemble RITMO CALIENTE & Alex Cuba All in ONE NIGHT!

Kelowna Community Resources have sponsored a Cuban cultural experience as a special addition to the Alex Cuba concert. The evening begins with Ritmo Caliente playing in the Atrium starting at 6:30PM. RITMO CALIENTE are the Okanagan Valley’s premier Latin ensemble featuring Latin percussion by Trevor Salloum. Salsa instructors will demonstrate the dances from this culture and the Rotary Centre for the Arts Bistro will be serving Mojitos and Cuban food.

Alex Cuba defines his own “Latin Soul” genre with a mix of pop, funk and blues in a Cuban base. With two Junos and a Latin Grammy for co-writing Nelly Furtado’s last album, and a single on the charts in Puerto Rico right now this is a concert not to miss!

Alex recorded his third self-titled album at Baker Studios in Victoria, BC. And it included his first-ever song in English “If You Give Me Love”. He may prefer to sing and write in Spanish, but Cuba keeps his stage patter entirely in English and exhibits a wit that often seems more Canadian than Cuban. What makes Cuba unique as a Cuban artist is that he doesn’t work within the musical traditions of his homeland, but incorporates them into a broader pop vocabulary drawing from North American rock and funk. But it’s his guitar heroics that reel in the fans. Not tied to tradition, this Cuban-Canadian prefers his vintage Gibson over el sencerro (cowbell) anytime.

Critical to Alex’s success is his constant touring with a live show that is described as explosive. The simplicity, power, and sheer efficiency of Alex’s trio, has stolen the stage- doing more with less is an ever-present mantra for Alex*Cuba.

Catch all the excitement November 9th at the Rotary Centre for the Arts!
