DECK – a play with and about power tools starts at RCA tomorrow night

WARNING: POWER TOOLS, PHYSICS, PARTIAL NUDITY

DECK examines the fine line between perfectionism and obsession, chaos and freedom and why a piece of 2×6 lumber isn’t really two inches by six inches. Not even close.”

DECK stars Cliv, a meticulous single parent who is forced to try his hand at home improvement. In true finding-oneself fashion, Cliv seizes on rebuilding this deck as the key to putting his life back in order.Enter Andreas, the charismatic carpenter who takes Cliv under his wing and offers to lend a hand.

“Myers, as Andreas, actually conscripts a small work crew of audience members to finish Cliv’s deck: we’re talking power drills and everything. Timely, dark, but always charming, Deck offers a kind of Canadiana I don’t see as often as I’d like. As a one-man show it’s one hell of a piece of craftsmanship.

Myers plays all of the characters in DECK and through voice changes and body mannerisms, convinces the audience he’s a 16-year-old girl, a 14-year-old boy, an uptight father and a free spirit who’s maybe a little too free with his drugs. The characters are hilarious and Myers had the audience laughing out loud and the characters’ antics.” – Chris Felling Culture Vulture Victoria
