Passion is the key to good food at Barrel Room Bistro

oook’s newest contributor Johann Wessels recently paid a visit to Barrel Room Bistro at Hillside Winery between Penticton and Naramata. Here what they have in store for their Fall menu.

Passion is the key to good food, without it, there are only ingredients. No matter how good the ingredients are, they are nothing more until an enthusiastic and gifted chef and his team combine them to create beautiful dishes.

Chef Rob Cordonier and his team at Barrel Room Bistro in the Hillside Winery between Penticton and Naramata, bring a rare energy and fresh enthusiasm to their offerings. Its not mere food on a plate, the magic happens long before the ingredients dance together, its when the crew of chefs walk into the kitchen and the tone of their voices and laughter is proof that they love the work they do. The excitement and joy seems to infuse the food and fuse into food the diner can fall in love with.

They will tell you of the sustainable, organic ingredients they use and of the years of training that they all have behind them and the well run kitchen system they work with, none of which would make the restaurant any different from the rest…. its all from the people who work together in admiration of each others talents and their unique synergy which makes this restaurant wonderfully different….not forgetting the fact that they pair their work with the Hillside wines.

The summer is behind us and most of the visitors to the Okanagan have returned to dream about the valley. Rob challenged his chefs to come up with something special for the winter and they are set to launch their new menu in the coming week. Sous chef Shayna’s eyes twinkle when she speaks about a new item called the “Benchmark burger”, its clearly something they are all excited about and had fun in designing the new dishes.

The Barrel Room Bistro at the Hillside Winery near Penticton is open daily for lunch between 11:30 and 5:00 and for dinner between 5:00 and 9:00pm.
