Rotary Centre for the Arts presents “LIVE AFTER 5” JAZZ JAMS
Thursdays 5:00-7:00PM starting Sept 15th
With summer winding down, the “Live After 5” Jazz Jams at the Rotary Centre for the Arts, were to finish at the end of August. What started as a summer concept thanks to the enthusiasm and support of Craig Thomson, his students and fellow musicians, was very well received and will resume weekly on Sept 15th.
You never know who will come in to play on Jam nights, and the summer sessions proved to be a welcoming and eclectic group. The highlight may have been Aug 5th when Michael Buble’s trumpet player, Jean Caze, strolled by and decided to join in the fun just before going onto the big stage! That particular night there were at least eight other horn players, an exceptionally talented pre-teen on the piano as well as some of Kelowna’s hot jazz players like Bernie Addington and Pat MacGibbon.
The popularity of the Live After 5 JAZZ JAM has taken hold with the new permanent weekday of THURSDAYS throughout the year, to be held in the cabaret style atmosphere of the Atrium at the Rotary Centre for the Arts from 5-7PM. The talent is exceptional and the jazz music is hot!
The Jazz Jam is open to everyone, if you’re an artist, performer or simply interested in arts and entertainment – come and have some fun and get a chance to meet people in an approachable and relaxed environment.
The Rotary Centre for the Arts will provide all lights and sound ~ PA , mics, stands, etc. as needed. The host will be responsible to ensure a house band arrives with keyboards, drums and bass/amp. As a jammer, just bring your own instrument as well as charts for fellow jammers.
As a music appreciator, just bring yourself and enjoy the licensed atmosphere of The Rotary Centre for the Arts Bistro, complete with daily food features and artisan gelato to enhance your listening pleasure.
Stay an hour longer and hone your dancing skills at the weekly drop in Salsa Thursdays which start at 8:00 with a mini dance lesson. Get your Ya-Ya’s out~Viva la Thursdays!
