GOLF: The Musical / Fortune’s Fools (Kelowna)

GOLF: The Musical had its Off-Broadway premiere in 2003 and was remounted last fall at the Midtown Theatre in New York City. It has been produced in over 50 countries and the Kelowna production this summer will be its western Canada premiere. Book, music and lyrics for Golf: The Musical are by Michael Roberts, based on a concept by producer Eric Krebs. Called a “delightfully silly surprise” by the New York Times, GOLF: The Musical is a hilarious madcap revue. The show prompted reviewer David Richardson of WOR 710 AM to rave “whether or not you play golf, you are going to love this show”, and “probably the best entertainment around”

While as a sport golf may be exasperating for some and exciting for others, in the world of GOLF: The Musical “what you don’t know about golf won’t hurt your enjoyment of this show, and what you do know will only enhance it” (TheatreMania). The show celebrates the fun, frustration and elation of this popular sport.

Fortune’s Fools was first produced Off Broadway at the Cherry Lane Theatre. Written by Frederick Stroppel, the play takes aim at modern adult relationships. It’s a play about two couples, the first about to be married and the second intensely vary of committing to marriage. The result is a rocky road to romance for all involved. The New York Post praised the show’s playwright as one who “knows how to create immensely likable characters…a fun play indeed”. Filled with lively, often hilarious dialogue, Fortune’s Fools was called “a rather tasty slice of wedding cake” by the Newark Star Ledger and ‘an old fashioned love story (that is)…funny, fast paced, entertaining and delightful” by Stages Magazine.
