TOMORROW Friday, March 23rd, CBC Radio West is bringing together members of the arts community for an afternoon of cultural conversation at the Streaming Cafe! Radio West host, Rebecca Zandbergen, will be interviewing guests on the availability, value and impact of arts and culture in the Okanagan – including oook’s own Katie Brennan.
The show will also feature live performances by Fields of Green and Kev Corbett, as well as locally renowned storyteller Gabriel Newman, poet Nancy Holmes, and Hamed Ghannad of The Ways. Come down and grab a drink and eats at the cafe (596 Leon Ave), watch a live stream ( @ http://streamingcafe.net/) or listen in from 3pm-6pm to hear thoughts and suggestions on cultivating arts and culture in your own backyard.

Human Geography prof from UBCO, has written reports for Kelowna on the creative economy, as well as (In progress) The Process of Winescape Iconography in the Okanagan Valley, Journal of Cultural Geography. Research interests include: Urban cultural geography; urban planning; sustainability of cities; morphogenesis; and geography of wine. Current research on the role of local culture in urban planning and sustainability in mid-size cities; changing landscapes of wine producing regions in Canada.
Sandra Kochan is the cultural services manager for the City of Kelowna. She started her professional career after nine years as a lawyer in private practice. After retiring from practice in 1989, she spent 13 years in the Okanagan wine industry. A consulting contract in cultural tourism led to links and an eventual long-term relationship with Cultural Services. Sandra worked as the City’s public art coordinator for five years before accepting the position in March 2009.
